Once again, Mister Sinister is the Star. To all of those fans that adored the Sinister focus as this series began, they will be pleased to find out that he is unquestionably the lead this week. His sassy, quick-witted banter lightens the mood of the event and almost offers fans a moment to take an intermission of sorts. Sure, this issue has a purpose towards the overall event. But, the tone shift is either going to cause fans of X OF SWORDS to be extremely disappointed or draw them closer to Mister Sinister and his HELLIONS.
The best aspect of this entire issue was by far the conversation between Jamie Braddock and Mister Sinister. Now, if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, then maybe an aggressive battle between Sinister’s or even an old HELLION returning for another mission with his team will hook you deeper into the narrative. However, the biggest take away from this issue is the genuine character and smarmy attitude of each member involved. Wells has progressed each HELLION while managing to give them their unique voice to the X-MEN landscape. This series truly deserves its share of praise!
FINAL THOUGHTS
Readers, this issue is exactly what a crossover event is supposed to be. The overall story of X OF SWORDS was advanced while Wells contributed with the same attitude and provided his distinctive spin to the overall story without changing his formula. Readers that have been digging other X-MEN titles get to see what HELLIONS is all about… and this issue does that perfectly! Wells reveals the light-hearted and comedic banter between characters as well as the unusual abilities of the team members involved. From Sinister’s condescending remarks to his high-brow fashion sense, Wells shows X-MEN fans that this series is a MUST READ in any pull list. If you aren’t reading HELLIONS, it’s not too late. Pick this up and truly see how much fun HELLIONS can be while continuing X OF SWORDS in the process.
