THE PATH TO JEDI WISDOM…OR A DEADLY TRAP OF THE DARK SIDE?

Well, the cover shows off the big reveal of the issue. So much for no spoilers huh? We all know the main purpose of this series thus far is to justify the original Luke Skywalker action figure with a yellow lightsaber. And NOW we know how/why he got it!!

This main Star Wars book along with the Darth Vader title are books centered on our main heroes/villains on personal quests. In this case, Luke, after finding out who his father is, is still trying to track down a mysterious woman that he believes can help him become a Jedi. Or if nothing else give him a lightsaber. Losing lightsabers is sort of a thing for young Jedi and/or Padawans. At the end of issue 5 Luke had finally tracked down the woman in his vision, Verla. After finding out that Darth Vader is Luke’s father, Verla quickly and rather easily trapped Like and left him for dead.

As we’ll quickly find out, Verla wants nothing to do with anything at all pertaining to Jedi, Sith, the Force. None of it. She’s not having it.

She apparently has had some rather bad experiences in dealing with the Force and what the ramifications are. She also seems scared to death of Vader.

As with almost everyone else in the Star Wars universe though, Verla has underestimated a droid. R2 saves the day yet again!!

Up to this point, things had been progressing rather nicely. After Luke’s rescue though we get bogged down. Bogged down by a lot of words. Words, words, and some more words. The problem is that while we clearly get the point of Verla’s hatred of things dealing with the Force, good or bad, we don’t really know why. Other than she didn’t want to deal with the Forces “vague promises”. Huh?? Well…ok.

Then things pick up a bit and as the cover spoils Luke does in fact get a yellow lightsaber. How he gets it is pretty darn cool but also a glimpse into the future of how Darth Vader will attempt to deal with Luke. It works really well.

Final Thoughts:

The Star Wars flagship book does exactly as it should. It’s leading the way for this rebooted comic line in both its writing and art. So, if you’re not sure which of the four Star Wars books to get, you can’t go wrong with this, the main book.
