When mutant babies start to go missing, Cable decides to make things personal. Tag in the fact that he’s kind of dating five, cloned, telekinetic, mutant blondes, an epic Space Sword, plus a big gun, and you have yourself an intriguing cocktail to wet your whistle after a long work week. Let’s jump into CABLE #2 by Gerry Duggan to see how this series starts to take shape and if young Cable can juggle the new dating scene while saving a missing baby in the process!

Now, I don’t know if Duggan is a Philadelphia Eagles fan OR if he’s a Philly native, but as a diehard Birds fan, as well as Philadelphia fan myself, instantly this issue gained some credentials with his unique Philly humor and witty charm. Additionally, Phil Noto’s illustrations and colors were so gorgeous, vibrant, and smooth that readers will immediately be teleported deep into the story. As opposed to X-FACTOR that also came out this week, this is how a writer integrates humor, charm, and extraordinary spirit into a comic.

Readers, this week’s tale is a really quick read that will offer a few interesting chuckles. However, the story doesn’t really progress forward too much. I’m still trying to figure out how the sword, a missing mutant baby, Philadelphia, and Space Aliens all fit together. Nonetheless, Duggan’s experience shows through in spades because I don’t care right now why it all fits together! Why? Well, because the issue was entertaining, quick, unique, and interesting. It’s ok to leave some dangling plot threads that are unanswered within a story if the writer can still find a way to connect with the reader, which Duggan does flawlessly. This is something that Gerry Duggan does very well and ultimately has awarded him the patience to see his stories through. I think he’s earned that leeway and I hope readers can simply sit back and enjoy the story while it unfolds.

FINAL THOUGHTS

X-fans looking for an action-packed story with many answers won’t find that here this week. Nevertheless, they will find this cleverly witty and authentically charming story that’s incredibly captivating from start to finish. It’s a pretty busy issue with many moving parts to explore as the series unfolds and I for one am all in! Plus, if Duggan’s story isn’t enough to draw you in, simply focus your eyes on Noto’s beautifully artistic design. Other than the last three pages, this issue was bright, stunning, and almost mesmerizing. Readers need to hop on board CABLE now and add this series to their pull list. This team is working really well together and this reviewer thinks the skies the limit. Furthermore, with an event called X OF SWORDS on the horizon, this story seems like it may be rather important to that showdown since it’s kind of centered around Cable’s newly acquired sword. Am I right or what? Either way, I highly recommend grabbing this issue. You can thank me later!
