Miles Morales is being yanked through the multiverse by “Spider-Zero”. Who Spider-Zero, and why is Miles needed so badly? Let’s find out!!

It is with great excitement and also a bit of trepidation that I review Spider-Verse #1. Why? Well despite Spider-Man being my favorite character, I didn’t read the first Spider-Verse series. So, with it being the same title and all, will I be lost? Will I know who the characters are? Will I have any idea at all what the hard is going on?? I can happily say I wasn’t lost, I was introduced to the characters that matter, and I know EXACTLY what’s going on! So bravo to the creative team for making this extremely new reader-friendly.

We begin the issue as Miles is battling a villain that really doesn’t matter at all, but his Spidey sense is going off as Spider-Zero is preparing him to get pulled through the multiverse. Next, we get a double splash page of really great art that depicts his travels.

From here things go very wonky as Miles appears in MANY different earths all in the middle of precarious situations. Some of them are really funny. I mean who doesn’t love an alternate Earth’s Ice-Man that has a literal ice cube for a head!!!

Miles finally does meet up with Spider-Zero, and we get some answers to if the Web of Life and Destiny were destroyed, and why Miles is needed. Without spoiling too much, let’s just say this is a job for a “younger” generation, and they seem up to the challenge!

My only very minor issue with this new #1 is that with such a huge art team the art doesn’t flow as well as it should. There are some outstanding art and colors, but also some that are not quite as good. It didn’t take away from the story or overall experience all that much, but does deserve mention I think.

Final Thoughts:

This is everything a number 1 should be! A super fun issue that introduces us to the characters, what the problems are, and what the plan is to resolve the problems.

8.4/10
