I don’t know why, but a lot of people seemed to sleep on this series. I am telling you right now, even if you didn’t read Weapon H, there is a lot to love here and Greg Pak is a great writer who gets everyone up to speed quickly and then you are off running…into fights and explosions. Sure, if you read Weapon H you will get more out of it, but I think it’s a book more people should take a look at. That being said, how was this finale? Let’s find out…
We open under Lake Erie and when you have a submarine car with Wolverine, Hulk and Weapon H in it, they will easily steal the show, right? Wrong! The best characters in this series so far are Clay and Sonya’s children and his mother in law! The kids are solid gold and I need more of them going forward! We get a roll call of sorts and the declaration that everyone in the car is a hero. Again, the kids are just so darn adorable here.
When the car/sub makes it to the surface, it’s fighting time as the three big guys start bashing a Humanoid…until it ports away with Logan and Bruce. While the kids are left reminding the family that Wolverine and Hulk are heroes too, we head off to see where they went. It’s not good and while what happens is pretty awesome, it spells a whole lot of trouble for Clay and the rest of the world.
I love how Greg Pak makes you love every second of this team up and then snatches it away from you right as it gets really good. Obviously, we want to see Clay save Logan and Bruce, but after just them sitting in a car together, I need to see more!
Without spoiling too much…Wolverine and the Hulk are now more like Weapon H than ever before and the only one who might be able to stop them is…Weapon H, of course! It’s two against one and it’s awesome! The fight takes a twist as Clay proves that a smart and in control Weapon H trumps a mindless one yet again, but I’m sure Leader would disagree.
The issue ends with the power of love (where is Huey Lewis?) winning the day and not just for Clay! It was a nice ending for a character that seemed doomed to a tragic one and after falling in love with him and his family, I was so glad for it!
Yea, this issue was forced a bit to get to a quick ending, but I loved it all the same. I have become a real Weapon H fan and that’s something I never saw coming. The writing and the art are top notch here as they have been in all three issues and again, more people need to check this out.
I have really enjoyed my time with Weapon H and Greg Pak and Ario Anindito kick butt and take names in this finale. The reason I fell in love with this book was the family aspect and Pak keeps the focus there and even expands it a bit. I highly recommend this issue and the whole series as well!
