What a strange trip it’s been. Amazing Fantasy #5 ends this mini, and while it tries to tie things up, this series is so out there that I’, not sure it succeeds.

Kaare Andrews has been giving readers a beautiful book with some of the most impressive covers I’ve seen in years. He is also offering a mystery story wrapped in an enigma, told as a whisper down the lane. Every issue feels like starting over or at least beginning a couple of steps back as you try to remember what happened in the last issue and attempt to make sense of it all.

That happens again here. We rocket through space, get some smooches, and an explanation of what’s going on. But, look, I am not an intelligent man, and while I get the overall motivations, I think we went the long way to get to the solution.

It’s hard to discuss this issue without spoiling it, but I think Andrew’s is counting on some feels that aren’t there by the end. It’s a scene we’ve seen many times but is thrown at the reader as a twist that has no time to mean anything. Plus, even without setting it up, Andrews makes it obvious it’s the wrong choice anyway.

Final Thoughts

In the end, Kaare Andrews’ Amazing Fantasy was easy on the eyes but hard on the brain. This finale attempts to make sense of it all by throwing things at the reader, but it all falls flat. The covers have all been fantastic, though!
