Confused??? I was too. Don’t feel bad. It really all will make sense by the end.

This is an issue unlike any other that I’ve ever read. It’s a different take and perspective that makes the Fantastic Four the aliens, the invaders, the bad guys. We’re also very very quickly introduced to a whole new superhero team, the Unparalleled! They have a “Hall of Heroes” that’s very reminiscent of the Hall of Justice!

On the planet Spyre, they have a prophecy of alien invaders attacking their planet. This stems from the Fantastic Four’s Marvel-1 rocket failure that resulted in the FF gaining their powers. Now in the present, as the FF in the Marvel-2 rocket attempt to recreate their mission, the Unparalleled wonder if the prophecy is real as an alarm sounds, or if it’s just a test.

We get a whole lot of the planet Spyre really quickly, right down to their class system, wedding rituals, etc…. However, having a seven-member Unparalleled team is a bit daunting. I’m not sure how long this team will be around or if it even really matters, but meeting seven new heroes and trying to remember their names and powers was a task.

Dan Slott does a great job of portraying the FF as the “alien” race, as the group to be so feared that there are prophecies about them. You’ll have to read the issue to see exactly what I mean. It works extremely well.

A shout out needs to go to Jesus Aburtov. His coloring really makes Spyre come alive! From the cities to the sky and water, he did an amazing job!

The J Scott Campbell “Mary Jane” variant cover needs mentioning too. It’s very cute and well done!
