My knowledge on the 616 Fantastic Four team is very limited, maybe even nothing, while my knowledge of the Ultimate Fantastic Four team is basically everything that happened to them in that Universe. I was excited to learn more about Sue . So far, we learned she is a badbutt secret agent. But, how awesome is secret agent Susie? Let’s dig in and see what we have here…
We begin our issue with a flashback to a mission with Tintreach and Sue. And it’s strange because for the longest time, I thought she always had blonde hair, so no clue why we are seeing her with red. It’s not even a wig. The whole cold open was to let us know about Aidan’s ideal wife and it’s all a set up for later. It felt like an overextended sequence without enough substance.
In Madripoor, Black Widow and Susan try and get Aidan back home safely. And the dialogue is like wow… Their conversation is really awful. But what happened next really was odd. Black Widow gave a drink order that is code for something because Susan’s drink didn’t have an umbrella in it they decide to follow the barkeep. But the way she sounded, makes as if they needed the umbrella to tell them to follow him. There we see this guy who knows Natasha but we don’t get a name. In order to get some intel, they have to beat someone in a drinking game. We do see Sue use her smarts to win, but it feels like the baddies would see right through her trickery.
After winning by cheating, the mystery guy calls in reinforcements, but really it didnt matter much due to how powerful Sue is. Just when they had their man, things go crazy and we are left with a very dead contact and a picture of Aiden’s wife. She does seem like his ideal mate, but I don’t know if that’s the ideal ending for out team.
While I enjoyed the last issue, this issue just didn’t do it for me. Some of the dialogue was off and it doesn’t even feel like Sue Storm. The art is pretty good, but some of the scenes took longer than they should have. Hopefully next issue sways me differently. I would not recommend this issue.
