Fifteen years ago, Dashiell “Dash” Bad Horse ran away from a life of abject poverty and utter hopelessness on the Prairie Rose Indian Reservation in hopes of finding something better. Now he’s come back home armed with nothing but a set of nunchucks, a hell-bent-for-leather attitude and one dark secret, to find nothing much has changed on “The Rez” — short of a glimmering new casino, and a once-proud people overcome by drugs and organized crime. Is he here to set things right or just get a piece of the action?
Series Overview Review:
Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, Scalped is extremely hardcore, politically charged, and filled with friction and uncertainty. The stories paint a canvas of outrage, disdain, violence, and deception that may compel you to feel apprehensive and uneasy at times. If Scalped isn’t concentrated on pandemonium and aggression, then Jason Aaron focuses on how corruption rears its ugly head into the Lakota Reservation. At times, this series may be too over the top, coarse, and grim, which leads to it “possibly” being a bit unrealistic. However, if you enjoy Garth Ennis and the oftentimes unrealistic barbarity that appears throughout that series, Scalped is undoubtedly for you.

In closing, Scalped will leave readers with a great deal to think about as you carve through each issue in the series. And even though it can be incredibly violent at times suiting itself to more mature audiences, I still recommend a deep dive into this series by Vertigo Comics and Jason Aaron. Overall, this story is an incredibly moving tale that will take you on a 60 issue adventure that could be deemed as a modern classic. So, go grab yourself a copy, stay home, stay safe, and read some comics!
