Daredevil #12 brings Matt Murdock one step closer to damnation (or is it salvation?) when he takes the ultimate step to save the souls of his friends trapped by the Beast in Hell.
Is It Good?
I don’t know how this is going to end, but I’m keenly interested in where Daredevil #12 is going. If you’ve paid attention to Comic Industry news, you know Chip Zdarsky’s time on Daredevil is fast approaching the end, and it appears Zdarsky is trying to push Matt Murdock toward a fight to end all fights.
When last we left Matt Murdock, he spent too much time licking his wounds and feeling sorry for himself after Fist Island was destroyed, and his allies were either killed or arrested. After a good swift kick in the pants, Matt tracked down the Stromwyns to force them to release his friends and expunge their records, engaging in a little eyeball mutilation to drive the point home. Now, Matt approaches the Gates of Hell to save the souls of his friends trapped by the Hand’s master, the Beast.
Look, if you’re going to go out, go out with a bang, and on that point, Zdarsky gets a big thumbs up for this issue. Matt has a heartfelt moment when relieves Sam Chung at the cave containing the Vortex to Hell, he has a lover’s fight with Elektra when she tries to stop him from doing what he’s about to do, and Matt has one more moment of heartstring strumming when he meets. In other words, Zdarsky packs in as many emotional beats as possible to infuse this issue with sorrow and heartache to make it as memorable as possible.
As a bonus, the last page reveal is a speculator’s dream come true. Without spoiling it, Matt gets an upgrade that looks awesome and may lead to a new status quo for him going forward. We shall see.
So, is the issue good? Creatively, I’m not sure because it depends on what happens next, but it’s certainly memorable, which is the most a creator could hope for in any issue.

Bits and Pieces
Daredevil #12 sets Matt Murdock on a road to Hell, and the results are memorable. It’s unclear how Zdarsky plans to wrap up his run on the Man Without Fear, but the setup for the forthcoming finale is turning out to be a wild ride.
