White Widow #3 finds Yelena Belova protecting one of her neighbors from an assassination attack only to learn the entire town of Idylhaven has been turned into an assassin training ground by Armament.

Is White Widow #3 Good?

At the risk of sounding unprofessional, White Widow #3 is quite possibly the stupidest comic I’ve read in a very long time. It’s not stupid because I don’t like the themes or the art’s terrible (it’s not). White Widow #3 is stupid because everyone in the story, including Yelena Belova, acts like a drooling idiot.

When last we left Yelena, she and her good-natured neighbors received eviction notices for violating Armament’s terms of service buried in the fine print of their lease agreements. Now, Yelena infiltrates Armaments records rooms to torch any eviction orders and sneaks into the CEO’s office to kill the boss. She finds the face of Armament is nothing more than a manufactured puppet.

Later, Yelena’s neighbor Rowan is attacked by three assassins wearing Armament logos. She stops the killers and is surprised to learn that at least one of the assassins is a former colleague who took the job to kill people because Armament has great medical and dental benefits. Yelena is further surprised to learn that Armament turned Idylhaven into an assassin training ground without telling the citizens, a revelation the Armament assassins didn’t understand was a problem because, in Sarah Gailey’s script, assassination is cool when killing isn’t. No, that’s not a joke.

What’s great about White Widow #3? In an effort to say something positive, Miracolo’s art is great.

What’s not so great about White Widow #3? Almost everything about this comic, besides the art, is a mess. You get the impression Gailey is trying to wrap Yelena’s latest adventure around a social commentary on corporations taking advantage of their employees by dangling the carrot of healthcare, but it comes off as a muddled mess. Everyone, including Yelena, appears oblivious to the absurdity of the things they’re saying and doing to each other.

Truly, this comic is just plain stupid.

Bits and Pieces

White Widow #3 is, to be blunt, a stupid comic. None of the characters’ actions, dialog, or thoughts appear to come from a person with a functioning brain, the plot is a convoluted mess, and Gailey is trying very hard to mimic MCU Phase 4 humor in a satire about corporate greed and healthcare. This comic is a waste of your time and lessens the titular character.
