Daredevil #10 pits Daredevil and Elektra against the Avengers for freeing convicted prisoners and killing the President. When Matt Murdock runs out of time, space, and options, he turns to the only power left to point toward God’s path.

Is It Good?

We praised Chip Zdarsky for making big moves in issue #9. Does Zdarsky repeat that display of brass big ones in Daredevil #10? Yes. Yes, he does.

When last we left Daredevil and Elektra, they managed to destroy the Lunate Talisman, revealing that Stck and Foggy were undead pawns of the Hand. Now, the Avengers arrive on the island to clean up Matt’s “mess”, but the Man Without Fear isn’t going quietly as he outruns and outfights Spider-Man to get a hold of the Book of Prophecy and unleash destruction.

Again, the highlight of Zdarsky’s script is his willingness to go big. The Fist versus Avengers fight is gritty, rough, and brutal. Dareveil makes a break for it to get to the Book of Prophecy with only Spider-Man in his way. Their one-on-one combat is thrilling as Dareveil uses every trick known (and a few ones) to get away from Spidey.

Finally, Daredevil solicits the help of an old frenemy, Goldy, to help end the battle and create an avenue for escape. Goldy succeeds in spectacular fashion by setting off a chain reaction that forces an island-wide evacuation, giving Daredevil enough cover in the chaos to escape capture while possibly sealing the fate of another character.

Zdarsky is firing on all cylinders with this issue. Big stakes, big action, big emotion, pulse-pounding pacing, and more are on full display.

I suspect a significant part of this comic’s success is due to the return of Marco Checchetto to art duties. This comic looks fantastic, and Marvel would be wise to hold on to Chcchetto for as long as possible.

Bits and Pieces

Daredevil #10 takes the big developments from issue #9 and goes even bigger with fantastic art, thrilling action, rollercoaster pacing, and painfully emotional moments for the titular hero. Zdarsky’s time on this title is rapidly coming to an end, and it looks like he’s doing everything possible to leave with a bang.
