Amazing X-Men #1, by Marvel on 10/8/25, launches the mutants into Revelation’s twisted future, where Cyclops and Beast are stranded and Wolverine prowls as the Angel of Death.

First Impressions

There’s nothing like starting a dystopian mutant nightmare with Cyclops and Beast waking up in borrowed bodies and realizing they are ten years deep into the future. Wolverine is now gutting friends for fun, while the survivors are running out of daylight and hope. The pacing makes it impossible to breathe without a snikt at your heels.

Plot Analysis

The comic opens in the aftermath of the X-Virus detonation, which forced mutants to found Revelation Territories under the iron grip of Doug Ramsey. Cyclops and Beast, brought forward by the X-Men of the future, are caught up in a desperate plot to destroy Revelation, who can command anyone and silence dissenters by turning them into Babels – mute, powerless souls. Wolverine, enslaved as Revelation’s Angel of Death, slaughters Magneto, Forge, and Archangel, only for Xorn to sacrifice himself by releasing the black hole within his head, ensuring the survivors’ escape. Cyclops, Beast, Animalia, Glob, and Schwarzschild regroup, pursued by Wolverine, and must rely on their shrinking resources and allies in Philadelphia to salvage their mission before Revelation’s regime can crush them completely.

Detailed Review

Writing

Jed Mackay spins a plot heavy with political intrigue and mutant philosophy, never pausing long enough for the paint to dry. The dialogue hits with sharp, punchy lines, keeping everyone’s motives as slippery as Magneto’s helmet. The exposition is mercilessly trimmed. Even Cyclops and Beast have to improvise rather than monologue.

Art

Mahmud Asrar delivers vivid, kinetic sequences and haunting landscapes, making every scene feel urgent and full. Matthew Wilson’s colors balance the grime and spectacle, so even the bleak sections sparkle, and there isn’t a panel without attitude.

Characters

The issue is packed with hard-edged survivors: Cyclops and Beast anchor the resistance with weary wit, while Animalia, Glob, and Schwarzschild bring chaos and fleeting hope. Wolverine, now Revelation’s loyal weapon, is the most terrifying threat in the book. Less mutant, more force of nature.

Positives

The plot is relentless and brimming with clever twists. The art injects personality into every grim scene: Wolverine’s transformation, the haunted ruins, and the tension between Cyclops and Beast all shine through. The pace guarantees readers never have the chance to predict who gets stabbed or saved next.

Negatives

Some character moments are sacrificed for frenetic plotting, and a few dramatic turns are left dangling for next month’s issue. The exposition gets so dense in places that keeping up is a challenge, especially for newer readers. Not enough time is spent on secondary characters. For example, Animalia deserves more than just a few haunted glares.

Final Thoughts

Amazing X-Men #1 is an X-Men story that throws the cast into a meat-grinder and dares them to fight their way out. The script swerves from sharp to savage, the art kicks grit in your eyes, and not a single mutant is safe. The setting is fresh and the stakes are nuclear. Just try not to get Babel’d before issue two drops.
