Vengeance Of The Moon Knight #7, by Marvel Comics on 7/24/24, sends Tigra, Hunter’s Moon, and a secret ally on a mission to undo a great wrong and turn the tide against the vampire apocalypse.

Is Vengeance Of The Moon Knight #7 Good?

Well, knock me down and call me stinky. Vengeance Of The Moon Knight#7 is possibly one of the brightest of bright spots in a generally lackluster and overblown event. Why? Because it upends the status quo… sorta, and hits you right in the emotional bread basket. The weaknesses are still evident, but on the whole, this felt like a meaningful issue.

When last we left the small team of heroes in Blood Hunt #3 (Maybe? I can’t keep track anymore.), the surviving Avengers split up on separate missions to tackle the vampire apocalypse from different angles. Tigra and Hunter’s Moon asked to be teleported away to meet up with an unnamed third party for a secret objective.

In Vengeance Of The Moon Knight #3, we learn exactly what Tigra and Hunter’s Moon had in mind and who they enlisted to help them out.

Clea plops Tigra, Hunter’s Moon, and their temporary partner in the middle of Asgard (You can probably guess where this is going). They sneak through the alleys and walkways until they reach their final destination – Khonshu’s prison cell.

Khonshu bids them welcome, but tells them they don’t have the power to free him, nor does he have the power to break an Asgardian lock. However, their partner has just what they need. Their unnamed partner steps from the shadows to reveal he’s Wrecker from the Wrecking Crew, and his Asgardian crowbar can break just about anything, including the chains on Khonshu’s prison cell door.

After a quick twist and a pop, Khonshu is free. He immediately whisks the trio away to his godly realm of power and summons an army of all past Moon Knights to wage war against the vampires overrunning the Earth.

Before Khonshu gets too far into his call-to-arms speech, Tigra demands one thing, and Khonshu graciously complies. Marc Spector has been resurrected. When Marc and Tigra run into each other’s arms for a loving embrace, the scene tugs at the old heartstrings, but before the lovebirds can go live happily ever after, Marc is tasked with leading an army to wipe out the vampires once and for all.

What’s great about Vengeance Of The Moon Knight #7? Nobody seriously believed Marc Spector would stay dead forever, but to MacKay’s credit, he set up the plan, executed the plan, and brought Marc back in a powerful, dramatic moment.

What’s not great about The Vengeance Of The Moon Knight #7? It’s a nitpick, but Hunter’s Moon, Tigra, and Wrecker broke Khonshu out of the Asgardian cell way too easily. If it was this straightforward, why didn’t they do it sooner? Where are all the Agardians while this jailbreak is going on?

How’s the Art? As usual, Cappuccio and Rosenberg do a phenomenal job using light and shadow to give readers a dramatic and powerful set of visuals to elevate MacKay’s atypically strong script. Kudos for adding the tail curl around Marc’s arm during the big reunion moment. It was an amusing touch.

Final Thoughts

Vengeance Of The Moon Knight #7 surprisingly turns out to be one of the better tie-ins to the Blood Hunt event. Not because it improves an event nobody is talking about, but because it upsets (and restores) the status quo in Moon Knight’s mythology. Jed MacKay executes a plan that actually works, resulting in a big moment that will pull on your heartstrings, and the artwork is outstanding.
