Sensational She-Hulk #2 gives Jennifer Walters a hard time when Hulk shows up, claiming She-Hulk has been following him. Somebody IS following him, but it’s not who you tthhhiiinnnnkkkk.

Is Sensational She-Hulk #2 Good?

The challenge with Rainbow Rowell’s slice-of-life take on She-Hulk is finding the balance between She-Hulk’s sometimes heroic, sometimes comedic past and this present version that appears to be rooted entirely in slice-of-life storytelling. The two versions occupy very different genres, but the biggest difference between the two is that She-Hulk’s most well-regarded stories are stories with an actual plot. Slice-of-life writing frequently has no discernible plot, which is what you find in Sensational She-Hulk #2.

When last we left She-Hulk, she was still in “figuring it out” mode with her boyfriend, Jack of Hearts, after he developed a way to allow physical contact. Now, Jen runs into Hulk in an alley when the Hulk warns She-Hulk away from following him. Jen has no idea what he’s talking about until the two are attacked by Becky, the evil scientist who attempted to steal She-Hulk’s power in the first Rainbow Rowell volume. And then they fight…

If it wasn’t clear, there’s very little to critique because there is no story. True to the slice-of-life format, Rowell isn’t adhering to anything resembling a plot. Things happen randomly, and those events may or may not play out. Therefore, this will be my last review of She-Hulk unless or until there’s a creative team and format change.

What’s great about Sensational She-Hulk #2? Nothing. This comic has random characters doing random things without any sense of purpose or direction.

What’s not so great about Sensational She-Hulk #2? The slice-of-life format was a critical creative error on Marvel’s part. Any other criticisms are side effects of that mistake.

How’s the art? It’s fine. Genolet is working with the script as presented, and I have no reason to believe Genolet isn’t delivering the best effort.

Bits and Pieces

Sensational She-Hulk #2 leans so hard into the slice-of-life model that there’s nothing in this issue resembling a plot, direction, message, or point. You’ll probably get more entertainment and less strain on your wallet by going to the mall and watching people walk by.
