Deadpool: Badder Blood #2 finds the Merc with a Mouth fighting one deadly adversary after another without any memory of how he got there or why the scenario keeps changing.

Is It Good?

Deadpool: Badder Blood #2 is the type of comic that will have you going back to issue #1 to make sure you didn’t miss something or accidentally skip an issue. Barring the character that appears on the very last panel of issue #1, everything else (the location, the side characters, the conversation) comes out of left field. After a few pages, you get the gist of what’s happening, but before the issue is out, you still don’t know for sure what’s going on, how Deadpool arrived where he is, or what the “villain” is up to. Oy!

When last we left Deadpool, he found Thumper and attempted to take him into custody to save him from himself when a woman suddenly appeared who looks a lot like Shatterstar. Now, we find out the woman calls herself Shatterstrorm as an homage to her hero, but she kills for money because swords are pricey. As a denizen of Mojoworld, Shatterstorm has been sent to take Deadpool out… but something ain’t right.

What’s great about this issue? It’s wall-to-wall Deadpool fighting action. If you like to see Deadpool slice, dice, and shoot as much as he runs his mouth, there’s a lot to like. As a plus, Liefeld’s art is in top form.

What’s not so great about this issue? The jarring narrative shift between issues is frustrating, the plethora of action leaves little room for story progression or plot, and the twist villain reveal leads to two character variants for the price of one. In short, it’s a lot of flash without much substance.

Bits and Pieces

Deadpool: Badder Blood #2 gives you plenty of Deadpool action, and some of the best art of Liefeld’s career, but the issue lacks setup and feels like a completely new story starts out of nowhere. The issue looks great, but readers may be more confused than entertained.
